The annual Yangcheng Lake hairy crab harvest began in SIP on Sept 26. Crabs from Yangcheng lake are highly sought after for their superior taste.
The crabs are raised in aquaculture area enclosed with nets in the lake and lakeside ponds. A total of 10,350 tons of crabs are expected to be harvested this year. The first batch of Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs are available in market from late this month to mid-October, and then about 6,000 tons will come into market from mid-October to mid-November and another 2,000 tons from mid-November to December.
The packaging and anti-counterfeit tags for Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs were unveiled, and the standards on quality grade and characteristics of such crabs were released on the same day.
Moreover, a series of events themed Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs are scheduled during the upcoming National Holiday from Oct 1 to 8 for tourists.
