An event was held in Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University in SIP’s Suzhou Dushu Lake Sci-Edu Innovation District on Apr 18 to mark the 2025 International Chinese Language Day themed “Chinese Language: A Gift Across Time and Space”.

The event attracted over 300 Chinese and foreign teachers and students from Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University, Soochow University, Renmin University of China Suzhou Campus and other schools, serving as a bridge between different languages and civilizations.

Performances featuring Chinese folk and martial arts were staged, and the award ceremony of the “China in Melody: International Student Chinese Song Contest” was held.

The event incorporated an intangible cultural heritage fair where the participants could learn about and experience traditional Chinese crafts of making woodcut prints, cloth, clay figurines and other daily use articles and art works, try on traditional costumes, watch the lianxiang (a traditional Chinese folk dance performed by dancers with bamboo or wooden sticks in hands) performance, and taste snacks that are local specialties.

Suzhou Industrial Park One-stop Service Centre for Expats provided consultancy on site to help those from abroad better understand local policies and get used to local life.
