The exhibition of the Hawker Culture of Singapore was a highlight of the Experience Singapore Week in Suzhou - Singapore Shiok Lah event.

The Hawker Culture is an integral part of the way of life for Singaporeans, where people from all walks of life gather at hawker centers to dine and bond over their favorite hawker food prepared by hawkers. After many years, this unique combination of food, space and community has evolved into a microcosm of Singapore’s multicultural society.

In 2020, the Hawker Culture in Singapore was successfully inscribed as Singapore’s first element on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The exhibition allowed the visitors to learn details about the origin of Singaporean food, the hawker centers in Singapore and other facets of Singapore’s food culture.

“I have learned something about Singapore’s food culture from the Internet, so I came with my daughter, hoping to learn more about it. It is very interesting. I hope I will have the chance to visit Singapore in the future,” said Ms. Chen, a local citizen.

Many people went to the food fair after visiting the exhibition. There were nine booths offering various kinds of authentic Singaporean food such as Nyonya Kuih, Laksa and Nasi Lema.
